Laurie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Math-Physics and French from
Sweet Briar College in 1987 and a Master of Architecture Degree from University
of Illinois at Chicago in 1991. She spent her junior year at the University of
Paris and a semester of her graduate studies in Rome. Art has been a secondary
pursuit since college where she took elective classes each semester. In her medium
of choice, watercolor, Laurie is primarily self-taught with the help of books by or
about favorite watercolor mentors such as Frank Webb and John Singer Sargent. The
subject matter of the work is inspired mostly from travels abroad, life in the city,
or the human figure. She is particularly fascinated by the representation of
architectural space as dreamlike memory or fantasy. Along with her extraordinary
talent, Laurie is also a licensed practicing architect in the State of Illinois.
